Exam results - band 7.5

The table illustrates the GSCE results of 42 pupils at Lowther school at the end of year 11 in the year 2005 and 2004 respectively. It relatively includes the national results and the different grades scored.

Overall, it can be seen that the in both years, the percentage of pupils who achieved 1or more A-G grades were slightly above the national results, nevertheless the national results of pupils gaining 1 or more A-G grades remained the same as with the previous year (2004).

Looking at the information given, all the pupils (100 percent) gained 1 or more A-G grades in the year 2005 (98 percent in 2004) which was followed by 86 percent of students achieving 5 or more A-G grades in the same year (82 percent in 2004).

The least proportion of students achieved 5 or more A-C grade in 2004 (just 18 percent) which is just about one third of the percentage of pupils who achieved 5 or more A-C grades in 2005. It is interesting to note that nearly half of the pupils gained 5 or more A-C grades in 2005.

Furthermore, not only was the average point score of each pupil in the best eight subjects in 2005 higher than the score in the previous year, but also, the national results was similarly slightly higher than the previous year.

On the whole, pupils performed better in 2005 than in the year before.
