The iPass teamwould like to congratulate Priya from India who passed her IELTS test last month with an overall band score of 8.

Priya first joined iPass in 2013 when she was aiming to get 4 band 7s in order to register as a doctor in the UK.

She had already taken the IELTS test 4 times at that stage but only managed Band 6 in Writing & Speaking.

We helped her to achieve her aim and Priya was able to complete her GMC registration. However, earlier this year her plans changed and she had to retake IELTS, this time with Band 7.5 in Speaking in order to emigrate to New Zealand!

Priya re-enrolled for the iPassIELTS Speaking course and I’m pleased to say that once again she achieved her aim with 7.5 in Speaking and Band 8 overall.

Top 10 Tips for IELTS Listening and Reading!!

Listening Test1. If the instructions say - NO MORE THAN 3 WORDS - make sure you only write between 1-3 words because you will lose marks for writing too much. 2. Don’t worry about using correct punctuation as you will NOT lose marks for this. 3. WRITE CLEARLY - this may sound obvious but if your writing is illegible it will be marked incorrectly. Use CAPITAL LETTERS if you have bad handwriting. 4. Make sure your spelling is accurate as you WILL lose marks for misspelt words. (You can use American or British spelling as both will be marked as correct). 5. Make sure you know how individual letters are pronounced in English because you may hear a name of a person or place spelled out and have to write it for the answer.Reading Test1. Quickly skim read the text BEFORE you look at the questions. You need to have a general idea of what it’s about before you scan for detail. 2. Underline key words (names, places, subject words) in the text when you’re skim reading so that you can find the answers to the questions more quickly. 3. Don’t panic if there are some words you don’t understand. This may not prevent you from answering any of the questions so just try to get a general understanding of the text. 4. Read each question TWICE and underline the key words - this will focus your attention on the information you need to find in the text. 5. Don’t leave any answers blank, especially if it’s a multiple choice question. Even if you don’t know the answer, make a guess. You’ll have a 25% chance of getting it right!
