iPass Press Release

Online IELTS (international English language testing system) practice website iPass has reached 72,000 YouTube viewers with its first speaking test video.

Posted on 07 March, 2008 the video shows a mock IELTS exam, featuring a Portuguese girl being interviewed under real exam conditions. Not only has the video attracted an overwhelming number of ielts students around the world, it has also caused an IELTS teacher from Beijing to write a 3,000 assessment on the interview, which can be found here.

Fans of the video described it as ‘really helpful’ and ‘an example to follow’ in comments posted on the YouTube page. Other IELTS candidates championed the usefulness of the video saying it showed ‘great body language with a confident manner … often an overlooked part of the interview.’ The complete transcript of the interview, plus professional analysis including interactive speaking practice exercises can be found on the iPass website.

Since its launch in February this year, iPass has attracted attention from 100 different countries worldwide and signed up over 2,000 members.  One member from The Philippines explains on the iPass forum how the site’s material helped her achieve a band 7 in the speaking test, enabling her to meet ‘the requirement of CGFNS for the VisaScreen for nurses entering the USA’.

Another member from the Netherlands describes how the ‘exercises with iPass have been of great help’ in her 4th bid to become a registered nurse in New Zealand. She admits how IELTS became ‘the most important issue’ of her life and that she didn’t ‘realize how difficult it was going to be’. However, she exceeded the required band score, completed a successful application and is now living and working in New Zealand.

iPass currently provides self-study modules for IELTS speaking and writing skills and is about to launch brand new reading and listening sections in addition. Co-founders of iPass, Nigel Haines and Jenny Bedwell are pleased that the positive feedback indicates that their IELTS practice material is helping people to achieve exam success:

‘When you hear that the service you are providing is having a real impact it motivates you to keep adding new material. We are hoping that our new reading and listening sections will be of similar value to candidates worldwide’.

iPass is an online exam practice website for IELTS (international english language testing system). It is a subscription based website which provides self-study training modules for IELTS candidates.
