Where can I take the IELTS test?

First of all, you need to see if the IELTS test is available in your country or your city. For example, if you live in Melbourne, Australia, you will see that there are eight different test centres available but if you live in Baghdad, Iraq, you will see there is only one.

The test centres are usually in big cities so if you live in a small town or village, you will also need to think about how you can travel to the test centre and how long it will take to get there.

For instance, if you live outside of London and the exam starts at 9am in the centre of the city, you will need to make sure that public transport is available to get you there in plenty of time. It is recommended that you arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the first test so that you can familiarise yourself with the venue and prepare yourself without having to rush. It may even be necessary to stay in a hotel the night before to ensure that you can arrive on time.

Remember that the first test is the listening test and if you arrive later than the official start time, you will not be allowed to enter.

When you have decided which centre you want, click on ‘more information’ to check the test dates on the website. Big cities have many candidates so may run the IELTS test 2 or 3 times a month. In contrast, smaller centres with fewer students might only hold the test once or month or even less. Always book the test as early as you can and then you have more chance of getting the date you want.

Another thing to consider is that the speaking test may not be on the same day as the writing/reading/listening test. It can sometimes be during the week before or the week after, so you must check both exam dates when making your travel arrangements.

The test centre website will also show you the cost of the test fee in your local currency and information on how to book your test. Payment and registration can often be done online but you can also phone or email the test centre directly if you have any questions related to booking the test.

It’s indeed my pleasure to say that I cleared my IELTS at first attempt itself with a score of R-7.5, W-7,L-7,S-7. I am very much grateful to the iPass IELTS team especially Jenny for the wholehearted support and constructive criticisms provided to me as I have not undertaken any other coaching other than iPass.
